Theatre Etiquette
Do you follow all the Golden Rules?
Please review our friendly etiquette refresher course. As an audience member, it is important to take the enjoyment of others seriously, a responsibility fulfilled by quietly attentive and self-contained behavior.
House Rules & Theatre Etiquette:
- Please be mindful of those who have allergies when applying perfumes and colognes.
- Please enjoy all food purchased at concessions in the theatre lobby. Only beverages with lids or caps (as served by concessions/bars) are allowed in the theatre.
- Please silence or turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones and watch alarms, and refrain from texting during performances, as the glow from your device is distracting.
- Please refrain from talking or singing along with the show, except when appropriate.
- Unless otherwise directed, please sit in your assigned seat.
- Please arrive early so you don’t cross over others after the show has started. If you arrive late, you may be re-seated until an appropriate time for you to get to your assigned seat.
- If you need assistance during the show, please go to your nearest volunteer usher. If additional assistance is needed, the usher will find the appropriate person to further help you.
- Have a comment or question? Please visit BTL’s customer service desk located in the lobby, or contact us.
Children and Live Theatre
Attending a live theatre performance can be a magical and memorable experience for children. Please take the time to select the proper show for your child to see. BTL shows are not one size fits all. Be sure to review show information on our website, as most shows have a suggested age, and please feel free to research each show to determine if it is appropriate for your child.
Here are some general guidelines that should be mentioned prior to attending a live performance to prepare your child to exhibit the proper behavior that everyone will be expecting from him or her.
- Children are expected to sit in their own seats, as children sitting in laps may hinder the view for other patrons. If you bring an infant or very small child who must be held, they MUST have a ticket to the show, regardless of age.
- Children are expected to be quiet, sit still in their own chairs, and not disturb others around them by talking or fidgeting.
- Booster seats are allowed. We also have a limited number of booster seats available at coat check.
- Children should only leave the theatre during intermission unless there is an emergency.
- If your child becomes restless, frightened, or loud, please take them to the lobby. You may always ask an usher to reseat you towards the back of the theatre/balcony. It’s unfortunate to mention, but children (and sometimes parents) behaving poorly will be asked to leave without a refund.
Broadway Theatre League shows are located in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall inside the Von Braun Center at 700 Monroe Street, Huntsville, Alabama 35801.
