Every season, Broadway Theatre League opens its doors—free of charge—to thousands of K-12 students and homeschoolers from across the Tennessee Valley. We believe every young person deserves the thrill of live theatre, and our Student Outreach Program makes that possible with streamlined scheduling, classroom support, and a safe, well-organized experience from curb to curtain.

How it Works

  • Pick your performance. Reserve seats on each show’s registration page. (Heads-up: the 9:30 a.m. show tends to fill first; the 12:30 p.m. matinee usually has more space.)

  • Classroom visit & study guides. Once you register, our Education Director, David Herriott, will send digital study materials and schedule an in-person classroom visit to prepare students for what they’ll see on stage.

  • Chaperone ratio. Please plan on one adult for every 10 students.

  • Bus logistics. David will email detailed drop-off and pick-up instructions tailored to your performance time.

Information for Schools:

  • REGISTRATION: Sign up on the show page for your preferred performance. Please note that the 9:30 performance is typically fills up quickly and the 12:30 performance is less crowded and is available for schools and homeschool groups.
  • SCHOOL VISITS: BTL’s Education Director, David Herriott will reach out to you to provide you with study guide materials and to set up a school visit. He will visit your classroom to get your students ready to attend live theatre and learn more about the show and what to expect
  • CHAPERONES: We ask that you have a 10:1 student to adult ratio
  • BUSES/PARKING: David Herriott will send you detailed bus drop off information for your specific show.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
  1. When your group arrives you will be greeted by BTL Staff and Ushers that will direct your group into the Concert Hall area. Groups are seated first come, first served, starting at the stage and working back. We will use the balcony after the floor area is full. We ask that students stay in line and remain with their groups
  2. Students should be escorted to restrooms by chaperones.
  3. After the show is over, we ask that all groups remain in their seats and listen to further instructions from the stage area. Groups will be released in a designated direction/doorway based on bus pick up location.
  4. Please visit the Theatre Etiquette page to learn more about theatre etiquette

At BTL we do our very best to keep groups as organized as possible while keeping all students safe while having a great time at the theatre! If you have any additional questions, please contact our Education and Outreach Director, 706-589-2507 or [email protected]
