All About Volunteering with BTL
Broadway Theatre League has some of the best volunteers in Huntsville—and we couldn’t do what we do without them!
Each season, our dedicated team of volunteers helps us deliver an exceptional live theatre experience to thousands of patrons from across the Tennessee Valley.
Volunteers are an essential part of the Broadway Theatre League family. By donating their time and talents, they help us keep ticket prices affordable, maintain a welcoming atmosphere, and ensure every show runs smoothly from start to finish.
What Do BTL Ushers Do?
BTL Ushers play a vital role in the theatre-going experience. They are often the first people our patrons interact with when arriving at the venue, and their warm, professional presence sets the tone for an enjoyable evening.
Our ushers assist with a variety of responsibilities, including:
Greeting and welcoming guests
Scanning tickets at the doors
Providing directions and answering questions
Helping patrons find their seats
Distributing programs
Supporting safety and accessibility procedures
Representing Broadway Theatre League with courtesy and professionalism
We ask that all volunteers uphold the high standards of BTL, offering friendly service and maintaining a calm, helpful demeanor throughout each performance.
Training & Requirements
To ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone, all BTL ushers are required to complete annual training.
Training is mandatory each season—even if you’ve ushered in previous years. This helps us keep everyone up-to-date with policies, expectations, and any changes to the venue or procedures.
Training Details for 2025–2026:
Two in-person training sessions will be offered in August 2025
You must attend one of the sessions to be eligible to volunteer
Trainings take place at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall in the Von Braun Center, typically starting at 6:00 PM
We’ll notify everyone on the interest list with confirmed dates and details closer to the time.
A Few Things to Know
BTL ushering is a volunteer-only opportunity (no paid roles)
Ushers must be 15 by the first training date of the season in August
We do not offer volunteer positions that involve working directly with touring cast or crew
Ushers should be comfortable standing, walking stairs, and assisting a wide variety of patrons
